Put your head in a vice

It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong, than to be always right by having noheadvice ideas at all.” – Edward De Bono

Do you want to be innovative? When you come in contact with a creative concept, do you sometimes wonder “How did they come up with that?” Me too.

What I have found in my study of creative people and innovative organizations is that one of their characteristics is that in addition to their clever ideas, they come up with a lot of crap. You never hear about the crap, though do you?

In order to have a creative idea, you first have to produce many, many ideas and then sift through the junk to find the pearl. How many good ideas did you have today?  How do you know?

Sometimes, you just have to squeeze those “lousy” ideas out of your head. Write them down, let them sit for a few days and then come back to them for another look. Go through the work of evaluating what you have created, you may be surprised what you will find.

Creativity tip for today: Put your head in a (metaphorical) vice. Squeeze those crappy ideas out, capture them, evaluate. Repeat as long as necessary.
